Thank you for visiting the official website for the South Dakota Coalition for Compassion! We are comprised of doctors, patients, families, elected officials, current and former law-enforcement, activists, students, and many other people from all walks of life who have come together for a common cause of compassion.  Not only do we recognize the scientific evidence for marijuana's medicinal value - but we recognize the desperate need for safe access to this form of therapy which is effective on a case-by-case basis for people who live with the following:

Multiple-sclerosis     Spinal Cord Injuries    Cancer  Glaucoma    HIV/AIDS

More than a dozen states have enacted some type of legal protection for patients who need medical marijuana. In 2004 the voters in our neighboring state of Montana passed a medicinal marijuana initiative by a margin of 28%!

The Coalition for Compassion sought to pass the South Dakota Safe Access Act through the legislative process in 2009, having failed by a 9 -5 vote in sub-committee the Coalition then filed to petition for the SDSAA to be put before the South Dakota voters on the 2010 ballot.
